The Southern Utah football team will look to lock up at least a share of the Great West Conference Championship Saturday when it travels to Vermillion, S.D. to take on the South Dakota Coyotes in the DakotaDome. The T-Birds (4-4, 2-1 Great West) enter the game tied with North Dakota, who they beat 35-10 on Oct. 24, for the conference lead. The T-Birds' lone conference loss was the 24-23 heartbreaker at Cal Poly on Oct. 17.

The Coyote football team took a 17-14 advantage over Northern Colorado into the fourth quarter, but the Bears (3-6, 1-5 Big Sky) scored a late touchdown to hand USD (3-5, 0-2 Great West) another tough loss, 21-17, on Saturday afternoon at Nottingham Field in Greeley, Colo.

North Dakota scored 14 unanswered points in the second half, pulling away from the University of South Dakota 27-12 at the Alerus Center here Saturday. The victory in the home opener for the Fighting Sioux spoiled a record-setting day for South Dakota quarterback Noah Shepard. Shepard, a senior from Thornton, Colo., became USD's career touchdown pass leader with a nine-yard strike to Ben Oberle early in the second quarter.
